Now in July 2010 Oracle is ending Premier Support for Oracle 10g Release 2 and an upgrade of all databases should be addressed early enough. With the introduction of Oracle 11g Release 2 last fall and Premier Support ending in January 2015, an adequate target platform is available. But not only the expiration of Premier Support for Oracle 10g Release 2 presents a reason for an upgrade. Five years have already past since Oracle's launch of Oracle 10g Release 2 which, at this time, provided a multiplicity of new innovations like Fast Start Failover, Transportable Database or Restore Points. Additionally, new features from Release 1 like ASM, Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Scheduler have been further enhanced and their administration has been alleviated.
